Collectibles / Militaria / Vietnam (1961-75) / Original Period Items / Uniforms
The M-65 field jacket is considered the height of US field
jacket design. This is the final
evolution that started with the M1943, an innovative combat uniform in its own
right, and continued with the M-51. The
M-65 keeps the roomy 4-pocket layout, metal zipper closure, and liner
attachments of its predecessors and adds a tuck-away hood, hidden in the zipper
compartment of the collar. This jacket
became a favorite of US soldiers in Vietnam due to its comfortable cut and
practical features, perfect for keeping cool at night or in the wet season
monsoons. Outside of Vietnam the M-1965
also became a fashion icon, endlessly copied through the ages by many civilian
clothing designers. This iconic jacket
featured in films like Taxi Driver and (copies) can still be seen worn out on
the street. The jacket in this listing was made during the Vietnam War as shown by the 1969 contract date and silver colored aluminum zipper, making this a very rare jacket to find nowadays. It is in the small regular size and appears to be entirely unused. There is even a cutter's tag inside the hood compartment! Unfortunately, there is some storage wear on the outside, particularly small brown stains, that was probably acquired in-period which may wash out.
