Hello!
This is a project I poured a lot of time and effort into, but I'm not wearing it as much as I had hoped, so I'm letting it go at a significant loss.
It started life as a standard jacket which I had a professional seamstress modify to my requirements. It originally had a typical butterfly collar, but I had it changed to the Mandarin collar, as this style is widely used in the Star Wars universe. It also had a rubbery emblem on the left sleeve, as well as on the middle of the back. They weren't large, but I removed them before continuing with my modifications.
The front (and pocket) snap closures are hidden as original, so that was part of what attracted me to this for modification. Generally, or, predominantly, you do not see any fasteners in the movies. This helps greatly with the finished look I feel.
Then I designed, and made, the real leather shoulder patch. A stencil was created based on the logo the Resistance Marines used on Scarif in the movie Rogue One. This was transferred to the leather and painted on with industrial paint. My own touch was the additional red stripe at the top of the patch. This was then weathered a bit, before I had it applied to the left shoulder of the jacket by the seamstress.
Once that was done, I got three bars of Otter Wax, and waxed the jacket by hand (this took about 16 hours to complete, over a few weeks). It is rubbed into the fine weave cotton (similar to a Barbour fabric, if you are familiar with that) and then set with a low-temp heat gun. Some creases and corners then come up "white" as the jacket moves during wear- which gives a nice weathered appearance. It can be re-set with heat from a warm iron, if you want to take the weathering out of it. More wax could be added if you like as well. You know exactly what I used for the job.
Of course, now it is a fantastic windbreaker and/or rain jacket, with a touch of "Star Wars" without screaming "geek".
One of the snaps had pulled out of the pocket (see picture) but the mating part is still there in the snap. This is how I received the jacket, and the seamstress overlooked it while she had it. We talked when I collected it, and it really needed serious reinforcement to last- I wasn't inclined to add bulk to the jacket, or spend more time and money on it. But the part is there, if you, or your seamstress, wanted to attempt to repair it. And be forewarned: the other may do the same at some point, but as of now, its holding fine. I never used the pockets myself.
It also has a soft cotton lining and an inside pocket.
I am 6'-2" tall; have a 42 chest and this fits comfortably. Sleeve length is good as well. Measurements are in the photos.
Measured flat across the chest, with the front snapped, under the arms
From the shoulder seam, near the collar, down to the bottom hem
From the underarm to the sleeve end
Across the back shoulders, from arm seam to arm seam
If you have questions, feel free to ask! it's a really cool jacket you will not see anyone else wearing! It is a one-of-a-kind!
